MEET THE FOUNDER & Teacher

Hello, I'm Gracia!

I've taught over 100 young musicians since 2018, engaging students through piano, music theory, as well as music and movement classes.

In 2021, I started Gracia Music Studio to help young pianists play the piano with confidence and have fun with music. In 2025, I started building Online Music Nest to allow busy families to still have easy access to music lessons despite hectic schedules.

Piano lessons often included music theory, but often, there was not enough time to play all the games we intended or to dive deep into activities that nurtured understanding and mastery of the music theory concepts.

But music theory sets the foundation for every young musician to achieve much more and it must not be neglected. Hence, Music Theory Club was birthed.

How do Zoom group lessons work?

Online group lessons are held over Zoom every alternate week, according to a given schedule. There are a total of 10 live online group lessons spread across two school terms (5 lessons per term). Each lesson lasts 45 minutes to an hour (depending on the grade).

What equipment do I need for the live online group lessons?

Nothing fancy! Just a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone (preferably a laptop or desktop), stationery and your Music Theory Workbook.

Will there be a make-up lesson if I can't attend a live online group lesson?

No, there will be no make-up lessons, as this is a group class.

You may watch the replay of a missed lesson once it is uploaded onto the learning portal.

For now, we are not able to open more time slots. If you are unable to join the Zoom lessons, please consider purchasing the Lite course instead.

General FAQ

Do you offer 1:1 Music Theory lessons?

No, we don't. If you would like to book adhoc 1:1 sessions, you may request to arrange a time with the teacher for an online consultation. However, please note that scheduling a 1:1 consultation is subject to the teacher's availability.

How much time should my child dedicate to Music Theory every week?

All learning activities and theory workbook assignments for each topic should take an average of approx. 1-2 hours to be completed. However, we recommend that students spend more time if needed.

Must my child sit for a Music Theory Exam?

No, it is not compulsory to take the exams! The decision is yours.

However, if you are considering practical exams beyond Grade 5 or further music studies for your child, we recommend taking the Grade 5 Music Theory exam upon completion of the course in due time.

This is because a pass in Grade 5 Music Theory is a common prerequisite for practical exams beyond Grade 5 and several music programmes in schools (i.e. to apply to music programmes in arts colleges like LASALLE, NAFA, Polytechnics and more).

For students keen to study O Level Music: It is no longer mandatory for students to have a Music Theory certificate to take up O Level Music in secondary school. However, the O Level Music Programme does not teach music theory in school, but students still need to have a strong theory foundation in order to excel in the subject.

Is there Music Theory Club for other grades besides Grades 1 and 2?

Currently, we only have Grades 1 and 2 available for our upcoming launch. But we will certainly roll out the other grades subsequently - one new grade every 6 months.

Doors open again in June 2026.
